This unit includes everything you need to teach, and dig deeper, into reading literature genres and nonfiction genres in middle school and upper elementary.

As an upper grade teacher, I often find that I assume my students have an understanding of literary information like genres. My 5th-8th graders tend to have a basic and simple understanding of things like genre, but I want them to really be able to analyze and dig deep into these concepts and that is the reason for these types of units.

This unit includes the following:

  • Mini-lessons
  • Interactive notebook pages with examples
  • Common-core standard alignment
  • Teacher data collections sheets
  • Rubrics
  • Pre- assessments and post-assessments with all answer keys
  • Genre Chart papers and poster to hang in your classroom
  • Editable Genre Classroom Posters

  • Title
  • Objectives
  • Common Core Standards for 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades
  • Materials Needed

  • Reader’s Workshop
  • Closing
