"I can't say enough great things about resources from The Hungry Teacher. These are perfect for writing workshops / to have as a reference guide for students. Students can find answers to their questions and problem solve on their own using these reference guides, which helps build autonomy in the classroom!"
"These are a life saver! My students know to check their reference tab of their binder first before they raise their hand. It's a great way to engage them in learning how to use tools for success. Thank you!"
"WOW! These are great for small groups, and as a reference in my room, and the sheets of content vocab go great in their binder as a set of notes they don't have to type or write out, thanks!"
"My kids don't mind turning a page (and coloring) while they internalize the details within. This is a great resource for teachers to teach with in class and for students to embrace as their own! It goes deeper than the typical notes, and the visuals make the information more memorable!"
Hi! I’m Martina, and I’ve been in your shoes—with scarce time to prep & teach, and students who hated reading and had barely any motivation for writing. The Hungry Teacher exists to help you raise great readers and writers, without driving yourself bonkers in the process. If you like real talk, practical resources, and a healthy dose of sarcasm—we should be teacher friends.
Many of the pages come in editable formats or with black-and-white versions that can be printed on colorful paper. A few booklets (like grammar and poetry) will have digital versions coming in 2025.
Nope! You can introduce them gradually throughout the year or build a full yearlong reference binder. Teachers often start with Literature or Grammar and build from there.
Yes! Every booklet was created based on Common Core-aligned standards and middle school ELA best practices.
These work best in grades 6–8, though many teachers use them with advanced 5th or support-level 9th graders.
