Why you HAVE to teach with Harry Potter

  1. Amy Thomas says:

This is my second year teaching and my first year in 5th. My school uses the Lucy Calkins units of study and her final unit is fantasy. When I found out Harry Potter is on her list of suggested texts, I almost lost my mind. I follow you on instagram so I came on your blog to search your different Harry Potter ideas. I've read this one and the one about your movie night. Are there any that I'm missing? I was also wondering, did you put the platform 9 3/4 signs on their lockers before starting the books? Same with the sorting hat and the letters? I'm trying to decide if I want to wait to do that until we get to that point in the book. I also want to sort my students into houses…did you do house points with them? Did you let them pick their top two houses that they wanted to be in and sort them from there? Trying to pick your brain, I love all of your ideas…I'm on spring break now and I'm looking forward to going back just to start teaching HP!

Thanks for all the great ideas!!

    Amy
