Mother’s Day Sugar Scrubs Gift

The other day on my Instagram, I posted about how my 100 middle schoolers made citrus scrubs for Mother’s Day. I got tons of questions and requests for the recipes, supplies, and labels we used, so I compiled it here.

This is not something I typically tackle, but I am really trying to do things that remind that my middle schoolers are still just kids. They loved when we did our middle school ELA-focused Valentine’s Day activities because they feel like they never got “fun” stuff like they did in elementary school.

Although they are already pretty wild on Halloween, I did create some ELA Halloween activities, and they participated much more willingly. They especially loved the Halloween commercials we watched for the rhetoric activity.

All those experiences were fun for us, and we were still doing ELA activities, so I keep reminding myself to just have fun with my students when I can. May is a good time because it’s close to the end of the year and it’s right around Mother’s Day, so I decided to roll with it.

I made a gift tag for students to add to their jars and you can snag that download below. This is a big jar that some of my classes got to use, but most used small jars I got online and in the Target dollar spot.

Here are a few action shots of what it looked like in my classroom. I will not lie, my classroom was slick and oily for days after, and a lot of kids were trying to eat it hahahahahah.

But it was still worth it.

Teacher Prep

This is what it looked like before the kids got to it. I just had the kids make Mother’s Day cards and then I called 4-5 at a time to come make theirs. I had to microwave the coconut oil in batches, but I’m lucky I could just send middle schoolers to do it. I did a jar at a time, microwaved for about a minute, and that one jar could last almost an entire class period.

Here is how much I bought of each material for my 100 students. In the end, I had enough for another class (of 25 students) to make them if I wanted to.
